கண்ட கல்மிசைக் காகுத்தன் கழல்-துகள் கதுவ,-

உண்ட பேதைமை மயக்கு அற வேறுபட்டு, உருவம்

கொண்டு, மெய் உணர்பவன் கழல் கூடியது ஒப்ப,-

பண்டை வண்ணமாய் நின்றனள்; மா முனி பணிப்பான்: 14

அருந்தவன் உறையுள்தன்னை அனையவர் அணுகலோடும்,

விருந்தினர்தம்மைக் காணா, மெய்ம் முனி, வியந்த நெஞ்சன்,

பரிந்து எதிர் கொண்டு புக்கு, கடன் முறை பழுதுறாமல்

புரிந்தபின், காதி செம்மல் புனித மா தவனை நோக்கி, 26

'அஞ்சன வண்ணத்தாந்தன் அடித் துகள் கதுவாமுன்னம்,

வஞ்சிபோல் இடையாள் முன்னை வண்ணத்தள் ஆகி நின்றாள்;

நெஞ்சினால் பிழைப்பு இலாளை நீ அழைத்திடுக!' என்ன,

கஞ்ச மா மலரோன் அன்ன முனிவனும், கருத்துள் கொண்டான். 27

குணங்களால் உயர்ந்த வள்ளல் கோதமன் கமலத் தாள்கள்

வணங்கினன், வலம் கொண்டு ஏத்தி, மாசு அறு கற்பின் மிக்க

அணங்கினை அவன் கை ஈந்து, ஆண்டு அருந் தவனோடும், வாச

மணம் கிளர் சோலை நீங்கி, மணி மதில் கிடக்கை கண்டார். 28

 Ahalya, the most beautiful of all women, who was married to the sage Gautama, known for the power of his austerities. Once, when Gautama was away, Indra took on his form and seduced Ahalya. When Gautama learned what had happened, he cursed both Indra and his wife. Ahalya was turned to stone, destined to stay that way until she was released from her curse by the touch of Rama’s foot.

Centuries later, Lord Rama, on his way to Mithila for Sita’s swayamvar passes through the hermitage, the dust from his feet touches the stone that is Ahalya. The curse is broken and Ahalya returns to her human form. Lord Rama touches her feet, proclaiming her innocence. Gautama is moved when he hears Lord Rama’s proclamation and takes her back as his wife.
