கம்பராமாயணமும் நாகேசுவரன் கோவில் குறுஞ்சிற்பமும் 1

During the 9th century Nageswaran temple was  constructed by  Adithya Chola I. It is great marvel of architecture building technology. It bears another name called Kottam or Keezha Kottam.  The orientation is structured in such a way that it allows sunlight inside the temple right on the sanctum only during the Tamil month (April/May).The entire Ramayana had been depicted on the athirstanam region of the temple sanctum. “There is continuity in the depiction. Every inch is beautiful and the sculptures are known for perfect lining, bhava and craftsmanship.The miniatures are admirable in terms of dramatic representation, body language and architectonic construction. And in addition to all these, they also have minute decorations.

வேள்வித் தீயில் பூதம் எழுந்து, சுதை நிகர் பிண்டத்தைத் தரையில் வைத்து மறைதல்

தூய நல் சுதை, நிகர் பிண்டம் ஒன்று, - சூழ்

தீ எரிப் பங்கியும், சிவந்த கண்ணும் ஆய்,

ஏயென, பூதம் ஒன்று எழுந்தது - ஏந்தியே. 84

வைத்தது தரைமிசை, மறித்தும் அவ் வழி

தைத்தது பூதம். அத் தவனும், வேந்தனை,

'உய்த்த நல் அமுதினை, உரிய மாதர்கட்கு,

அத் தகு மரபில்நின்று, அளித்தியால்' என்றான். 85

The glorious #Dasharatha, king of the equally glorious #Ayodhya, cannot conceive a son with his three wives Kaushalya, Kaikeyi or Sumitra. His minister and Guru Sage Vasishta advises him of a solution: ask the sage Rishyasringa to perform a son-getting ceremony. 

The king gets #Rishyasringa who performs the ceremony. The ceremony goes off very gloriously and well. A #gana emerged out with  celestial porridge and has himself handed to Dasharatha during Rishyasringa's sacrificial fire.
